President Donald Trump declared that the United States would implement tariffs on countries that “harm” the nation, specifically identifying China, India, and Brazil as examples of nations with high tariffs.
“We’re going to impose tariffs on foreign countries and foreign entities that truly bring harm to us. Well, they intend to harm us, but they essentially wish to make their country prosperous,” Trump told House Republicans during a retreat in Florida, marking his first speech after starting his second term as president.
He criticized nations such as China, India, and Brazil for enforcing significant tariffs and announced that his administration would no longer tolerate those actions. “Observe what others do. China is a major maker of tariffs, and India and Brazil and so many other nations. Thus, we’re not going to permit that to continue because we’re going to prioritize America,” Trump stated.
Trump promised to create a “fair system” that would channel funds into the U. S. economy, assisting the country in regaining wealth and strength. Reflecting on his economic vision, he commented, “Rather than taxing our citizens to support foreign countries, we ought to impose tariffs and taxes on foreign nations to benefit our citizens. ”
The president clarified that under his “America first” economic approach, heightened tariffs on foreign countries would lead to tax reductions for American workers and businesses, fostering job creation and the return of factories to the U. S. “As tariffs on other nations increase, taxes on American workers and businesses will decrease and vast numbers of jobs and factories will relocate back here,” he added.
Trump also referenced his previous suggestion to impose “100 percent tariffs” on the BRICS coalition, which includes India.
He urged companies to establish their manufacturing facilities within the United States to avoid incurring tariffs. “If you wish to stop paying the taxes or the tariffs, you need to construct your facility right here in America. That’s what’s going to occur at unprecedented levels,” Trump stated, forecasting exceptional growth in domestic manufacturing.
The president highlighted support for sectors like pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and steel, advocating for production to shift back to the U. S. He also revealed plans to impose tariffs on materials critical for national defense, including steel, aluminum, and copper.
“We must restore production to our nation. There was a time when we produced one ship daily, and now we cannot construct a ship. We have no idea what we’re doing. It’s all vanished to different locations and different lands,” Trump expressed.
To further boost domestic production, Trump suggested relaxing environmental regulations on mining rare earth minerals, which are plentiful in the U. S. “We possess some of the best rare earth resources anywhere globally, but we’re not permitted to utilize it because environmentalists got there first,” he commented.
