Trump Demands Action to End Ukraine War

US President Donald Trump spoke via video conference to leaders around the world at the annual World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland. He described the Russia-Ukraine conflict as an “absolute killing field.” He continued to describe it as a serious situation where millions of lives are being lost, and that this war must be brought to a close. President Trump would be willing to speak with Vladimir Putin, President of Russia in a short span of time as a way forward towards a peaceful resolution and brought forth the sense of human losses rather than interests of economic and strategic.

“Nobody has seen anything like this since World War II,” Mr. Trump declared, urging swift end to conflict. He even added that the OPEC was one of those which could determine the end.

Trump Blames OPEC for High Oil Prices and Russia-Ukraine War

Trump did not stop there; he blamed OPEC for fuelling the war. He further argued that if oil prices went down, the war would end. US president shifted the onus to OPEC+ nations, Saudi Arabia, and Russia for holding 2.2 million barrels of oil per day, thereby ensuring high global prices. The cuts, that have been prolonged until March 2025, have meant oil prices are well above average, according to Trump, and this was a spark that ignited the crisis.

Trump’s comments made their way around the world with the oil markets falling. The US crude dropped by 0.84 percent to $74.81 a barrel, and Brent crude lost 0.7 percent at $78.45 a barrel.

Views by Trump on Sanctions and Diplomacy

Earlier, Trump had threatened Russia with “high levels of taxes, tariffs, and sanctions” unless the war ended soon. The Kremlin has remained open to dialogue, with spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirming Russia’s readiness for “mutually respectful” talks.

Trump’s remarks mark a shift in US policy, signaling his determination to use global pressure to bring the ongoing conflict to a close.
