Trump Appoints Sriram Krishnan, Chennai-born Tech Leader, as AI Advisor

Sriram Krishnan, a distinguished venture capitalist and author, has been appointed as the Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, announced Donald Trump on Sunday. This appointment is part of a broader initiative to advance AI development.

Krishnan, who has an impressive career working with tech giants such as Twitter, Microsoft, Facebook, Yahoo!, and Snap, will work closely with David Sacks, designated as the White House AI & Crypto Czar. Together, they will focus on maintaining American leadership in AI and shaping AI policies across government, including collaborating with the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. Trump emphasized that Krishnan’s career, which began at Microsoft as a founding member of Windows Azure, makes him well-suited for the role.

Following the announcement, Krishnan expressed his gratitude on X, saying, “I’m honored to serve our country and ensure continued American leadership in AI, working closely with David Sacks.”

Krishnan’s appointment has received widespread praise from the Indian-American community, recognizing his contributions to technology and leadership. Born in Chennai, India, Krishnan moved to the U.S. after completing his studies. In addition to his tech expertise, he is also a venture capitalist, podcaster, and author.

Alongside his wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy, Krishnan co-hosted The Aarthi and Sriram Show, a podcast focused on startups, which gained popularity among entrepreneurs. In 2021, Krishnan joined Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) as a general partner, leading the firm’s London office before leaving in late November. He also played a role in restructuring Twitter with Elon Musk following Musk’s acquisition of the platform and helped former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson reconnect with Musk after Johnson’s nomination to the proposed Department of Government Efficiency.
