A TikTok user, who had bragged about evading taxes for eight years, is now under federal investigation after she publicly threatened to kill Elon Musk. The threats fell into the radar of law enforcement, with US Attorney for D.C. Ed Martin confirming an investigation.

TikTok User Causes Outrage with Graphic Threat

A female user with the handle “saracroberts” on TikTok posted a stunning remark, calling for the assassination of Elon Musk graphically and straightforwardly.

“Elon Musk, we need to X him, and by ‘X him,’ I mean, formally known as assassination,” she stated in a video that rapidly went viral online. The user’s incendiary remarks did not stop there. She also confessed to not paying her taxes for almost ten years, brazenly asserting that her avoidance had gone undetected. In addition, she suggested that federal agencies were unable to investigate her because of government agency layoffs.

Federal Authorities Respond

The furor was fueled again when the U.S. Attorney for D.C., Ed Martin, acknowledged the viral remarks on X (previously Twitter). Martin’s response, using the hashtag #NoOneIsAboveTheLaw, indicated that federal agencies are not joking about the comments.

“Duly noted. Thx for letting us know. We’ll put you in the system. Talk soon, Ma’am,” Martin wrote, which implied that an investigation into the TikTok user’s behavior is already in process.

Potential Legal Consequences

Vocal threats made towards public figures who have large political and business sway are taken more seriously at the federal level. Elon Musk, being the head of Tesla and SpaceX, possesses a lot of influence in the private sector and even more in the public sphere, which enhances the gravity of the words made against him.

Besides that, the public admission of tax evasion by the TikTok user may have legal consequences. The tax authorities at the federal level, including the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), can undertake an independent investigation of her remarks.

Public Response and Social Media Debate

The event has created intense debate on social media, where the majority of users have condemned the remarks as irresponsible and risky. Others have pointed to the broader implications of such comments on public platforms, especially regarding free speech and legal repercussions.

As the federal government launches its investigation, the case is a sobering reminder that online postings—particularly those that include threats and confessions of criminal behavior—can have tangible consequences.
