TikTok is now officially out of service in the United States after the federal ban on the app has kicked in. It is confirmed that the TikTok application has gone out of the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, while the platform’s web version cannot be reached either. In the attempt to open the application, a notice will appear blocking them from any form of viewing material.
TikTok has yet to release an official statement addressing its shutdown. However, a notification sent to users earlier confirmed the app’s unavailability. The message read:
“We regret that a U.S. law banning TikTok will take effect on January 19, temporarily forcing our services offline. We’re working to restore TikTok in the U.S. and appreciate your support. Please stay tuned.”
Users logging into the app got another notification: “Sorry, TikTok isn’t available right now. A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, you can’t use TikTok for now. We’re hopeful that President Trump will work with us to reinstate TikTok once in office. Stay tuned!”
Oracle to Shut Down TikTok Servers
According to The Information reports, Oracle American cloud computing firm that has TikTok in tow is deactivating its servers. As such, the entire app will no longer be reachable to all American users.
Earlier, TikTok had sent a statement expressing warnings that they would shut down if the Biden administration did not provide an understandable solution by then. The statement said, “Unless the Biden Administration immediately provides assurances to key service providers, TikTok will be forced to go dark on January 19.”
Statement on Trump
As the shutdown of TikTok was on the horizon, former President Donald Trump weighed in on the issue via his social media platform, Truth Social. He said, “My decision on the app will be made in the not-too-distant future, but I must review the situation first. Stay tuned!”
Although the app is still available in some parts of the world for now, experts believe its services will shut down in the next few hours, depriving millions of American users of the popular app.
Uncertainty Looms for TikTok’s Return
The shutdown is temporary, the app informed its users, but it hasn’t said when its services will be restored. For now, it seems the return of the app depends on further discussions and resolutions with the U.S. government.
