Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on Tuesday that the company will double its car production in the United States over the next two years. Addressing the White House with President Donald Trump, Musk characterized the expansion as “an act of faith in America.”

He attributed the decision to “the great policies of President Trump and his administration,” stressing the firm’s resolve to expanding manufacturing capabilities even after the recent challenges such as fluctuation in stock price and across-country protests against Tesla.

Musk also asserted that he would still be serving as an adviser to Trump, informing that he would continue being an adviser as long as he found it useful.

The news comes at a critical juncture for Tesla, as the firm is under greater scrutiny and criticism. Nevertheless, Musk’s ambitious plans for expansion are an indication of faith in the future of the US electric car market.
