A taxi swerved off the street and hit six pedestrians in Manhattan’s busy Herald Square on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in three individuals hospitalized, including a 9-year-old child, as reported by the New York Police Department (NYPD).
The event took place at approximately 4 p.m. close to Macy’s well-known flagship location when the yellow cab leaped onto the curb and crashed into people on the sidewalk. Although the driver remained at the location, police suggested a potential medical incident but stated that the reason was still being investigated.
Two of the wounded individuals, including the young child, were taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center, whereas another victim was sent to Bellevue Hospital. All three were said to be in stable condition. The other pedestrians refused medical assistance at the location.
Video recordings captured the consequences, revealing the taxi’s bent front bumper and broken fragments strewn on the sidewalk. Authorities barricaded the location with tape while detectives scrutinized the site until the wrecked car was removed later that night.
Amid the disorderly situation, the wounds were not critical, and there were no arrests. The event stands as a stark reminder of how swiftly ordinary moments can become perilous in a city as bustling as New York.
Officials are still looking into the situation, advising carefulness for both drivers and pedestrians during the bustling holiday period.
