A devastating traffic accident in southern Mexico early Saturday morning resulted in the deaths of 41 people, according to a statement from the Tabasco state government. Authorities confirmed that recovery operations were still underway.

Bus Engulfed in Flames

The accident occurred when a passenger bus, carrying 48 people, collided with a truck. The impact led to a massive fire that engulfed the bus, leaving only its skeletal metal frame standing. Tragically, 38 passengers lost their lives along with both the bus drivers. The truck driver was also killed in the collision.

Challenges in Recovery Efforts

Authorities are facing difficulties in identifying the victims due to the severity of the fire. Security officials in Tabasco revealed that only 18 skulls have been recovered so far, with many remains yet to be accounted for. The search and recovery efforts remain ongoing.

Tours Acosta, the operator of the bus, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy in a social media post. The company assured that it is cooperating with authorities to determine the cause of the crash, including verifying whether the vehicle was traveling within the speed limit.
