Sheikh Hasina Lauds Donald Trump’s Victory: ‘A True Reflection Of Exceptional Leadership…’

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina extended her congratulations to Donald Trump following his victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential elections.

In a statement issued by her party, the Awami League, Hasina described Trump’s “resounding election victory” as a “testament to his extraordinary leadership qualities and the immense trust bestowed on him by the American people.” The statement also mentioned Hasina’s appreciation for her past meetings with Trump and his wife, Melania, during his first term in office.

She expressed hope that Trump’s second term would further strengthen the friendly relations between Bangladesh and the United States. Hasina also reiterated her commitment to collaborating on bilateral and multilateral interests of both nations.

Trump, having won the presidency against Democrat Kamala Harris, secured the necessary 270 electoral votes, with victories in crucial swing states such as Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia. He is set to return to the White House four years after being defeated by Joe Biden in 2020.

Hasina, who had previously accused the U.S. of playing a role in her removal as prime minister, faced rebuttals from the Biden administration. The U.S. Department of State dismissed these claims, calling them “laughable” and rejecting any involvement in her resignation. Following intense protests, Hasina resigned in August and sought refuge in India, while an interim government, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, now governs Bangladesh.
