Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a press briefing on the Ukraine conflict, acknowledged efforts by world leaders, including former US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He expressed appreciation for their involvement despite other global challenges.
“First of all, I would like to start with words of gratitude to President Trump for his attention to the Ukraine settlement. Many world leaders, including China’s Chairman, India’s Prime Minister, and the Presidents of Brazil and South Africa, have invested time in this issue, and we are thankful,” Putin said.
Modi’s Stand on the Ukraine Conflict
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated India’s stance that this is “not an era of war but of dialogue and diplomacy.” During his recent meeting with Trump at the White House, Modi emphasized that India is not neutral but stands for peace.
“I have already told President Putin that this is not the era of war. I support President Trump’s efforts toward peace,” Modi stated.
Since the war began in February 2022, PM Modi has engaged in diplomatic talks with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, advocating for a peaceful resolution.
Putin’s Concerns Over Ceasefire Proposal
The United States has urged Russia to accept a proposed 30-day ceasefire without conditions. However, Putin remained cautious, stating he supports the idea but has “serious questions” regarding its execution.
Trump called Putin’s statement “promising but not complete,” suggesting more clarity is needed for effective implementation.
Ukraine’s Response and Ongoing Conflict
Ukraine recently accepted the US-backed ceasefire proposal after pressure from Trump and Zelensky’s discussions in Washington. The conflict, ongoing since February 2022, has caused immense destruction, loss of life, and geopolitical tensions between Moscow and the West.
