President-Elect Trump Names Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense in Key Appointments

Following his victory over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, President-elect Donald Trump has quickly started assembling his foreign policy and national security team ahead of his January 2025 inauguration.

On Tuesday evening, Trump announced key nominations, including former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe for CIA Director, William Joseph McGinley for White House Counsel, former New York Congressman Lee Zeldin as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense.

Trump praised Hegseth, saying, “Pete has dedicated his life to serving our troops and our country.” Trump highlighted Hegseth’s military service, academic background, and years as a FOX News host advocating for veterans. Trump added that Hegseth’s leadership would ensure America’s military remains formidable.

William Joseph McGinley was also named White House Counsel. Trump stated, “Bill is a skilled attorney who will help me advance our America First agenda and protect election integrity.” McGinley, who served in Trump’s first term as White House Cabinet Secretary, has a strong legal background, including experience with the RNC and NRSC.
