Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan, Russia, on Wednesday during the BRICS Summit. This marks their first bilateral meeting since 2019. PM Modi emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability at the India-China border, stating it should remain a “priority” for both nations.

During the meeting, PM Modi acknowledged the significance of the India-China relationship for not just their respective nations but for global peace. He said, “We believe that the India-China relationship is very important not only for our people but also for global peace, stability and progress.”

PM Modi also welcomed the progress made on the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh, where tensions had been high in recent years. He added, “We welcome the consensus reached on the issues that have arisen in the last 4 years on the border. Maintaining peace and stability on the border should remain our priority. Mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual sensitivity should remain the basis of our relations.”

This bilateral engagement highlights efforts to resolve border issues and improve relations between the two countries. Further developments are expected.
