A recent study by American journalist G. Elliott Morris has uncovered the most popular politician in America, and it’s not Donald Trump. Morris analyzed data from YouGov/Economist polls taken over the last three months, looking at voter attitudes towards prominent politicians and possible 2028 candidates.
Describing his technique, Morris wrote, “Then I selected prominent players, and plotted their net favorability rating (the percentage of adults who reported they had favorable views of the person/party minus percentage who reported they had unfavorable views of the person/party) in the latest result.
Who is the most popular US Politician?
The results ranked Senator Bernie Sanders in first place, with a rating of 46% favorability and 39% unfavorability. Senator Sanders is well-liked by young individuals (by almost 20 points), lower-income voters, moderates, independents, Hispanics, Black voters, and men. He is almost as well-liked by white voters, lagging by only two percentage points.
Morris indicated that Sanders’ broad appeal was rooted in his biting critique of the current political system, which appealed to young men in 2016 and left them open to Trump’s message in 2024. “Sanders’s campaigning against the neoliberal consensus is convincing with the numerous voters (and once more, particularly young individuals) which feels has left them behind.”. Trump was the spokesman for the generation in 2024, just as Sanders was in the 2016 primary (and sort of became in the 2016 general). Perhaps Democrats can take a lesson from that,” he said.
The analysis also pointed out that Elon Musk is the least popular GOP-aligned major figure, while Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Pete Buttigieg are more popular than both Trump and JD Vance.
