At least four dozen people have lost their lives in a fatal bus accident reported by local media on Saturday in southern Mexico. To the victims and their families, authorities extend their condolences even as investigations into the fatal accident continue.

The bus, run by Tours Acosta, was on its way from Cancun to Tabasco at the time of the accident. Comalcalco Mayor Ovidio Peralta declared his support for federal and state authorities, saying, “We are ready to assist in any way they require.

According to a list of passengers that was issued by Tours Acosta, there were 44 people on the bus when it was involved in the accident. The company, on its Facebook page, said it is deeply grieved by the tragic incident and stated that the vehicle was traveling at the right speed while promising the government full cooperation to have the cause of the crash established.

Ramiro Lopez, Tabasco’s secretary of government confirmed that officials will give further details about the identity of the victims and other issues later on Saturday.
