JUI-F Chief Demands New Elections in Pakistan

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), has once again called for new elections in Pakistan. He insisted that fresh elections are essential for the nation’s “salvation,” as per reports. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Rehman stressed the need for free and fair elections and urged the establishment to remain neutral.

Criticism of Government’s Legitimacy

Rehman stated, “New elections are the only solution to save Pakistan.” He criticized the current government, claiming it lacks legitimacy and was formed under a “fake” mandate. He also demanded the release of “political” prisoners, including PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Involvement in Constitutional Amendments

Rehman highlighted JUI-F’s role in the 26th constitutional amendment. Initially, the amendment had 56 clauses, but Rehman’s party reduced this to 27. He claimed that without JUI-F’s involvement, the government wouldn’t have gained 11 additional votes for the amendment. He added that PTI abstained from voting because of internal conflicts.

Allegations of Fraud in the 2024 Elections

Earlier, Rehman dismissed the 2024 election results, pointing to “widespread rigging and irregularities.” At a public rally in Karachi, he accused assemblies of being “sold” and demanded immediate re-elections. He remarked, “Sindh Assembly and President House were also sold,” and called the election results “unacceptable.”

Foreign Policy Criticisms

Rehman criticized the federal government’s foreign policy, especially its stance on Israel and Palestine. He asserted, “We are being punished for supporting Palestine and opposing Israel.” He also claimed Pakistan faces repercussions for trying to improve relations with Afghanistan.

Commitment to Constitutional Governance

Rehman promised to uphold governance based on the constitution. He emphasized that JUI-F’s struggle would continue through future generations, saying the party remains committed to Pakistan’s sovereignty and democratic integrity.
