US President Donald Trump met with Jordan’s King Abdullah on Tuesday. This meeting came after Trump proposed redeveloping Gaza. He suggested relocating its residents and transforming the area into the “Riviera of the Middle East.” However, the idea received backlash from many Arab nations, adding complexity to an already fragile situation.

Hostage Crisis and Ceasefire Dispute

Meanwhile, on Monday, Hamas announced it would halt the release of Israeli hostages. They claimed Israel violated the ceasefire agreement. In response, Trump threatened to cancel the truce unless Hamas releases all hostages by the end of the week.

King Abdullah’s Rejection

On the other hand, King Abdullah firmly rejected Trump’s plan to displace Palestinians. He is expected to warn Trump that such actions could fuel regional instability. The king believes that this could undermine peace with Israel and put Jordan’s security at risk.

Trump’s Response to Refusals

In addition, Trump has voiced frustration with leaders who oppose his plan. On Monday, he emphasized that Jordan would likely accept refugees. When asked if he would cut aid to Jordan and Egypt, he replied, “Yeah, maybe, sure, why not… if they don’t agree I would conceivably withhold aid.”

Jordan’s Refugee Dilemma

Furthermore, Jordan already hosts over 2 million Palestinian refugees. This has long been a concern for the country’s leadership, as it impacts their population of 11 million. The situation remains a significant challenge for the government.
