At the historic inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States on Monday, JD Vance was sworn in as vice president with his wife Usha Chilukuri and their three children beside him. However, at this solemn occasion, their 3-year-old daughter Mirabel managed to steal the show by thumb-sucking in public.

Mirabel was nestled in her mother’s arms as Vance took the oath of office. The little toddler had her thumb in her mouth and three fingers were covered with colourful bandages. Even though it was an important event, this little toddler’s innocent behaviour went viral in a flash on social media.

Many viewers enjoyed the typical toddler act of Mirabel, and some even speculated that the band-aids were a result of her insistence rather than any injury. Social media users couldn’t help but gush over the sweet scene, with one commenting, “I think the whole country can agree that JD Vance’s daughter sucking her thumb with those kid bandages on her other fingers is totally adorable.”

Some other people were smiling at the scene, pointing out that Mirabel’s bandaids had become emblematic of something timeless and occasionally funny about children. Even with the gravity of the day, it was in this mundane, familiar moment that many found endearing.
