Washington Mid-Air Collision Kills 67
Earlier, a tragic mid-air collision in Washington, D.C., took place when an American Airlines passenger plane and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter crashed. As a result, 67 people lost their lives, including 60 passengers and four crew members. Additionally, three soldiers in the helicopter were killed.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) later revealed that the Black Hawk was flying at 300 feet, which exceeded the permitted altitude of 200 feet in that area. Consequently, this accident became the deadliest U.S. aviation disaster in over two decades.
