At least one Lebanese soldier was killed, and 18 others were injured, some critically, in an Israeli attack on an army center in Al-Amiriya, located along the Al-Qalila-Tyre road in southern Lebanon, the Lebanese army confirmed on Sunday.
The assault caused extensive damage to the facility, according to a statement shared by the army on X.
The Israeli military has not yet commented on the incident.
Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, condemned the strike, describing it as a “direct and bloody message” rejecting efforts toward a ceasefire, enhancing the Lebanese army’s presence in the south, and implementing UN Resolution 1701.
“This aggression is a matter for the international community, which remains silent on the hardships Lebanon is enduring,” Mikati said in a statement.
UN Resolution 1701, adopted in 2006, aimed to end hostilities following a month-long war between Israel and Hezbollah. The resolution established a ceasefire and created a buffer zone between the Litani River and the Israel-Lebanon border to promote long-term regional stability.
Tensions along the border have remained high, with sporadic violence posing a challenge to maintaining the terms of the resolution.
