Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, citing a “crisis of trust” amid ongoing military operations. Netanyahu expressed that his confidence in Gallant had “eroded” in recent months, which ultimately led to the decision to remove him from his position.
Foreign Minister Israel Katz will take over as the new defence minister, while Gideon Saar has been appointed as the new foreign minister, according to a statement from Netanyahu’s office.

In his statement, Netanyahu emphasized, “In the midst of a war, full trust between the prime minister and the defence minister is more essential than ever.” He noted that while there was once trust and productive collaboration in the early stages of the campaign, “over recent months, this trust has fractured between myself and the defence minister.” He further indicated that “significant gaps emerged between Gallant and me in the handling of the campaign.” In response, Gallant shared a brief message on X, asserting that the security of Israel “was and will always remain the mission of my life.”
