Israel: 19 People Injured As Rocket Hits Building In Tira

A missile strike in Israel’s Sharon area injured 19 people, police reported early Saturday, after the army announced that three projectiles had been fired from Lebanon into central Israel.

All 19 people, including four in “moderate condition,” were transported to hospitals for treatment, according to the Israeli police.

Earlier, Israel’s Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency medical service reported several injuries from a strike in the central city of Tira, including “a male around 20 with shrapnel injuries.”

Videos shared by the Israeli Foreign Ministry on social media depicted fire and smoke pouring from a building onto the street, with emergency responders at the scene.

“This is the result of a direct hit of a Hezbollah rocket on a building in the Israeli Arab town of Tira, injuring 19 civilians,” the ministry stated in the post.

“We cannot and will not rest until Hezbollah is dismantled,” it added.

The Israeli army announced on Telegram that some of the three projectiles fired from Lebanon were intercepted.

Tira, a primarily Arab town, lies approximately 25 kilometers (15 miles) northeast of Tel Aviv, close to the occupied West Bank border. The conflict in the Gaza Strip has now spread to Lebanon, where Israel has been conducting airstrikes against Hezbollah, a known ally of the Palestinian group Hamas.

According to Israeli figures, at least 63 Israelis have been killed since cross-border hostilities with Hezbollah began following Hamas’s deadly assault on Israel on October 7, 2023.

On Thursday, rocket fire from Lebanon killed seven individuals in Metula, northern Israel, including four Thai farmers.

Hamas’s October attack on Israel resulted in 1,206 deaths, mainly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures.

Israel’s retaliatory actions have resulted in the deaths of 43,259 Palestinians in Gaza, mostly civilians, as reported by the health ministry in Hamas-controlled Gaza, with these figures deemed reliable by the United Nations.
