Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei addressed Israel’s recent attack on Iran, warning that it “should neither be exaggerated nor minimized.” In a post on X, Khamenei called the incident a “miscalculation” without providing further details.
The strike, which took place early Saturday, followed Tehran’s October 1 airstrike, which was itself a response to the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Israeli forces killed at least four Iranian soldiers in the operation, though Iranian officials have downplayed its impact, stating that the damage was minimal. The UN atomic energy agency confirmed that Iran’s nuclear program, a longstanding point of contention, was not affected by the strike.
Amid these rising tensions, the United Nations Security Council is set to convene on October 28 to address the situation in West Asia, responding to a formal letter from Iran. In the letter, Iran asserted that Israel’s actions “constitute a serious violation of sovereignty and territorial integrity” and represent a breach of international law and the UN Charter.
Meanwhile, questions surrounding Khamenei’s health have surfaced, with a New York Times report suggesting he is “seriously ill.” The report indicates that Khamenei’s son, Mojtaba Khamenei, may succeed him, though the succession may also involve input from the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), sparking speculation on the future of Iran’s leadership.
