The Santa Clara police stated they shot Nizamuddin after receiving a 911 call of a stabbing case involving his roommate. According to police, Nizamuddin stabbed his roommate with a knife and would not comply with the instructions of the police. However, his family strongly denies the report, alleging racial harassment and demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances of his death.

He was an employee of a technology company in Santa Clara and was described by family members as soft-spoken and religious. Nizamuddin had reportedly posted on LinkedIn that he was a victim of racial discrimination, wrongful termination, and workplace harassment.

His family reports that Nizamuddin himself had called the police for help and that the police shooting was unnecessary. They have asked for the assistance fromIndian Ministry of External Affairs in bringing his body back home and a just investigation into the incident as well as into the previous accusations of racial discrimination.

Actions Underway

The Santa Clara police have confirmed that the shooting is under investigation, with ongoing investigations to uncover all the facts. With the complex claims by the family of racial harassment and earlier workplace complaints by Nizamuddin, there are calls for impartial investigations with human rights observers and diplomatic sources to guarantee justice and transparency

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has been approached by the family to step in and facilitate repatriation and a rightful inquiry. Indian political leaders and social activists are likely to approach the relevant authorities to seek accountability and the safety of Indian citizens abroad.

What Now?
