Indian Americans Who Could Secure Key Roles in Trump’s 2.0 Cabinet

Following President-elect Donald Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, discussions have quickly turned to possible Cabinet selections for his second term, with a significant focus on prominent Indian American Republicans who may be positioned for top roles. Trump, set to be inaugurated on January 20 per the 20th Amendment, is utilizing the interim period to form his leadership team with the help of a transition team led by high-profile allies.

According to Trump Campaign advisor Brian Hughes, Trump’s transition team has been preparing for the shift in power. The team includes influential figures such as Howard Lutnick, Linda McMahon, Eric and Donald Trump Jr., Robert F. Kennedy Jr., former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, and Vice President-elect JD Vance.

Potential Indian American Appointees in Key Roles

  1. Vivek Ramaswamy
Former presidential candidate and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy endorsed Trump after suspending his own campaign, marking his support for the MAGA platform. Trump is rumored to be considering Ramaswamy to lead the Department of Homeland Security, given his extensive background in business and policy.

2. Tulsi Gabbard
Former Democratic Representative Tulsi Gabbard has become a visible part of Trump’s transition efforts and could be a choice for a diplomatic role. Gabbard, who has campaigned alongside Trump, previously expressed openness to serving in a Trump administration and was lauded by Trump’s supporters for her bipartisan appeal.

3. Kash Patel
Known for his loyalty to Trump, lawyer Kash Patel is reportedly a strong candidate for CIA director. Patel’s experience includes time on the National Security Council and a role as Chief of Staff to Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller. He has continued to support Trump publicly and would bring a wealth of defense and intelligence expertise to the administration.

4. Bobby Jindal
Former Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, who has been actively involved with health policy, may be considered for Secretary of Health and Human Services. As chair of the Trump-aligned Center for a Healthy America, Jindal has advocated for Affordable Care Act reforms and transparency in healthcare costs, aligning with Trump’s health policy goals.

5. Nikki Haley
Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, who briefly challenged Trump in the Republican primary, is speculated to be out of the running for a top Cabinet post despite her recent endorsement of Trump. While their relationship has fluctuated, Haley voiced strong support for Trump in the final stretch of his campaign, calling her endorsement an “easy call” in a Wall Street Journal op-ed.

As Trump’s transition team works toward finalizing his Cabinet selections, these Indian American Republicans are among the most discussed candidates, with speculation mounting around their potential influence in shaping Trump’s second term in office.
