The Indian government expressed concern over the detention of Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatan Jagran Jote. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this happened when minorities were facing increased attacks, ranging from arson and vandalism to even the desecration of religious sites.
Das, accused of sedition, was denied bail by the Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Court, which ordered him to be shifted to judicial custody while affording all religious rights. He was arrested over charges of disrespecting Bangladesh’s national flag at a rally last October.
India condemned the targeting of minorities peacefully protesting Das’s arrest. “We urge Bangladesh authorities to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and all minorities, including their right of freedom of peaceful assembly and expression,” read a government statement.

ISKCON Vice President Radha Ramn Das clarified that it was a misinterpretation. It was explained that a saffron flag hoisted at a higher height than the Bangladeshi one during a rally was wrongfully taken to be an insult.
In West Bengal, Hindu groups have announced a blockade at the Petrapole Border if bail isn’t granted. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari declared statewide protests, including a torch rally, to demand justice for Das.
