According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this happened when minorities were facing increased attacks, ranging from arson and vandalism to even the desecration of religious sites.
Court Refuses Bail to Hindu Monk
Das, accused of sedition, was denied bail by the Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Court, which ordered him to be shifted to judicial custody while affording all religious rights. He was arrested over charges of disrespecting Bangladesh’s national flag at a rally last October.
India Reacts
India condemned the targeting of minorities peacefully protesting Das’s arrest. “We urge Bangladesh authorities to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and all minorities, including their right of freedom of peaceful assembly and expression,” read a government statement.
