A boating tragedy unfolded near New York on Sunday as a vessel overturned in the Ambrose Channel, leading to multiple casualties. Emergency response teams, including the New York Fire Department (NYFD), New York Police Department (NYPD), and the U.S. Coast Guard, rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call around noon.

Casualties and Rescue Operations

Six individuals were thrown into the water as the boat capsized near Breezy Point, a well-known area at the tip of Queens’ Rockaway Peninsula. Rescue teams managed to pull five people from the water and transport them to nearby hospitals. Tragically, three of them succumbed to their injuries.

Authorities confirmed that one of the injured remains in critical condition, while another is stable. Two victims were airlifted to Staten Island University Hospital, while the remaining three were taken to Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook, where medical teams awaited them.

Coast Guard’s Emergency Efforts

According to officials, four of the five rescued individuals were unresponsive when pulled from the water. Coast Guard personnel performed CPR in an attempt to revive them. As of Sunday night, search operations were still underway for one missing person.

Investigation Underway

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident. While the exact circumstances remain unclear, NYPD has stated that no other vessel appears to have collided with the boat. The Coast Guard confirmed that they received an alert about a “vessel taking on water” and later described the boat as “sinking.” Further details about the victims and the type of boat involved are yet to be disclosed.
