High-IQ, 80+ Hour Weeks, No Pay: What It Takes to Apply for Elon Musk’s DOGE Job

Donald Trump, the US President-elect, has established a new government body aimed at reducing federal expenditures. The newly formed department, known as DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), is headed by billionaires Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, and its mission is to streamline the US budget.

Purpose and Deadline

The department’s main goal is to cut down on government spending, and it is set to collaborate closely with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget. The department has a target date of July 4, 2026, to complete its mission, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the United States. While DOGE is not officially recognized yet, it has already begun accepting job applications.

Job Requirements

DOGE’s new X account, which has quickly garnered 1.2 million followers, shared a job opening on Thursday. The post did not specify exact educational qualifications or work experience but outlined the qualities they seek in candidates. The department is looking for “super high-IQ small-government revolutionaries” who are willing to put in over 80 hours a week on cost-cutting efforts, without expecting glamour.

The post also stated that they were not interested in “more part-time idea generators” and emphasized that candidates should be ready to take on significant responsibility. While the DOGE account was initially inaccessible when the job was posted, the application instructions encouraged interested individuals to DM the account with their resumes.

Initial Reactions

One observer humorously noted, “Your first job in making things more efficient is to actually open up your DMs.” Despite the unconventional nature of the new department, the focus on drastic budget cuts and efficient government operation is clear.
