As Democratic nominee Kamala Harris struggles to maintain support among Black voters, particularly Black men, former President Donald Trump has garnered endorsements from various prominent Black celebrities.
Recent polls indicate a significant drop in Harris’s appeal among Black voters. According to a New York Times/Siena College poll, her support has fallen to 78 percent, down from the 90 percent support enjoyed by President Joe Biden in 2020. The situation is even more concerning for Black men, with only 70 percent currently supporting Harris, compared to Biden’s 85 percent in the last election.
Additionally, a poll by the NAACP reveals that approximately one-quarter of young Black men now support Trump. While celebrity endorsements do not always translate to widespread popularity, they can influence public perception. High-profile endorsements from figures like boxing legend Mike Tyson and rapper Lord Jamar reflect Trump’s increasing acceptance among Black Americans, despite his controversial associations.
Mike Tyson, who endorsed Trump last month on the podcast “It Is What It Is,” expressed his belief that Trump is a “good man,” acknowledging that not everyone agrees with all of Trump’s views. Other celebrities supporting Trump include rapper Kodak Black, former NFL stars Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell, New York Giants legend Lawrence Taylor, and boxing promoter Don King. In a campaign video, Don King emphasized the importance of re-electing Trump, asserting that a vote for him is a vote for one’s own interests.
The decline in support for Harris among Black Americans is largely attributed to a growing perception that Democrats have failed to fulfill their promises, as highlighted by The Times poll.
