Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff expressed excitement and optimism about Vice President Kamala Harris’s chances in the election during a visit to Michigan on Tuesday. While greeting voters in the suburbs outside Detroit, Emhoff stated, “I think we win this election, we’re gonna win here in Michigan. In the next day or so, I want to be able to look at her and say, ‘honey, you’re the president of the United States.’”
Emhoff, who joined Harris at her final campaign rally in Philadelphia the night before, noted the joy and energy his wife brings to her campaign. “You can see the emotion and that connection,” he remarked, emphasizing how Harris has effectively communicated her message over the past 15 weeks.
During his visit to the Whistle Stop Diner in Oakland County, a critical area for Democratic success, Emhoff connected with voters. Oakland County played a significant role in previous elections, having been won by Democrats in both 2016 and 2020, with President Biden increasing his margin there.
Wearing a “Yes She Can” shirt, Emhoff humorously commented on his campaign schedule, saying he was prepared to sleep “maybe tomorrow” as he focused on rallying support for Harris.
