The Democratic National Committee, seeking to recover from its loss in the November election, elected Saturday Ken Martin, Minnesota’s state party leader, as its new chair.
Martin now inherits the challenge of rejuvenating a party that had not only suffered White House loss to Donald Trump, but also fail to regain control of either chamber of Congress. Since the defeat, Democrats have found themselves unable to reverse many executive orders Trump has issued in turn, after nullifying policies enacted by former President Joe Biden.
A seasoned Democratic strategist, Martin emphasized the need to strengthen the party’s national infrastructure to remain competitive in future elections. He defeated Wisconsin Democratic Chair Ben Wikler on the first ballot.
Today’s elections mark a new chapter in DNC leadership, and Donald Trump and his billionaire allies are put on notice: we will hold them accountable for ripping off working families, and we will beat them at the ballot box,” Martin said in a statement.
