A minimum of 33 people were killed, and several others were injured in a catastrophic bus accident in Bolivia’s Potosi region in the west, officials said on Saturday.
The accident occurred early Saturday morning on the Uyuni-Colchani road. One of the buses was reported to be heading to a carnival festival when the crash occurred.
Osmar Salvatierra, a local official in Uyuni, stated, “There has been a fatal accident, and it has already left us with about 33 confirmed fatalities.”
Emergency responders and police officers responded to the site to assess the situation and provide treatment to the injured. The authorities are probing the cause of the accident, and an official report is imminent.
The tragic incident has cast a shadow over the region, instigating holiday road safety concerns.
