Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has publicly endorsed Donald Trump for the 2024 US presidential election, expressing his support in a recently surfaced video message. Bolsonaro, who lost to current President Lula Da Silva in this year’s elections, stated, “The return of Trump is the certainty for a better world,” emphasizing a vision of no wars, no terrorism, and a return to liberty.
In his message, Bolsonaro articulated sentiments on behalf of “all Brazilians who love God, the state of Israel, respect the traditional family, private property, free markets, and free speech.” He referred to Trump as the “Trump of the Tropics,” highlighting their similar political trajectories marked by populist rhetoric and allegations of election fraud after their respective electoral defeats.
While both leaders face ongoing legal challenges Trump with multiple cases in the US and Bolsonaro barred from contesting Brazilian elections for eight years by the Supreme Court Bolsonaro’s support for Trump has been evident in the past. In a rally on July 6, he expressed hope for Trump’s return to the presidency. As of now, Trump has not publicly acknowledged Bolsonaro’s endorsement.
