Bill Gates Donates $50 Million to Support Kamala Harris Amid Concerns Over Trump

Billionaire and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has reportedly donated approximately $50 million to a nonprofit organization supporting Kamala Harris in her campaign for the US presidency, according to a New York Times report. This donation to Future Forward, the primary fundraising group backing Harris, was intended to remain confidential, as Gates has not publicly endorsed her candidacy against Republican Donald Trump in the upcoming November 5 election.

In private discussions, Gates has expressed apprehension about the implications of a second Donald Trump presidency, particularly regarding potential cuts to family planning and global health initiatives that could arise if Trump is re-elected.

Despite this significant donation, Gates has emphasized his ability to collaborate with either candidate. In a statement to the New York Times, he highlighted his commitment to bipartisanship, but acknowledged that “this election is different” due to its unprecedented importance for Americans and vulnerable populations worldwide. “I support candidates who demonstrate a clear commitment to improving health care, reducing poverty, and combating climate change,” he said.

In July, after President Joe Biden announced he would not seek re-election, Gates expressed optimism about Harris, noting the advantages of having “somebody who’s younger” who can address issues like artificial intelligence. While Harris turned 60 last week, Trump is 78, making him the oldest presidential nominee in US history.

Gates’ ex-wife, philanthropist Melinda French Gates, has previously endorsed Harris. According to Forbes, at least 81 billionaires have supported Harris in her campaign against Trump, although notable billionaire Elon Musk has expressed his support for Trump.
