US President Donald Trump discussed the issue of illegal immigration on Tuesday, stating that India would take the necessary steps to repatriate illegal immigrants. This statement followed his recent talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Trump also shared that PM Modi would visit the United States in February, though the Ministry of External Affairs has not yet confirmed the details.

Immigration Talk and Modi’s Upcoming Visit

Trump spoke about the immigration issue during a conversation with reporters aboard Air Force One. He said, “Discussed immigration with Modi. India will do what is right when it comes to taking back illegal immigrants.” Regarding Modi’s visit, he added, “I had a long talk with him this morning (Monday). He is going to be coming to the White House, over next month, probably February. We have a very good relationship with India.”

Bilateral Talks on Global Issues

Trump’s comments followed discussions between the two leaders on global peace, regional security, and bilateral trade relations. After the talks, PM Modi expressed his satisfaction, tweeting: “Delighted to speak with my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump @POTUS. Congratulated him on his historic second term. We are committed to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership. We will work together for the welfare of our people and towards global peace, prosperity, and security.”

Strengthening US-India Strategic Partnership

A White House statement emphasized the deepening cooperation between the two nations. The statement highlighted the discussions on regional security in the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East, and Europe. Additionally, it underscored the importance of India purchasing more American-made security equipment and moving toward a more balanced trading relationship. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the US-India strategic partnership and the Indo-Pacific Quad partnership, with India set to host the Quad Leaders summit later this year.
