“A Vote for Stronger US-India Relations”: Indian-Americans Reflect on Trump’s Victory

Indian-Americans are celebrating Donald Trump’s presidential election victory, expressing optimism about potential benefits for the economy, border security, and global peace.

Trump’s win in key battleground states has secured him a second term, marking a significant comeback after his 2020 loss to President Joe Biden. Avinash Gupta, President of the Foreign Indian Association, believes Trump’s strong rapport with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will further enhance India-US relations. Gupta pointed to concerns like inflation, open borders, and ongoing conflicts that motivated Indian-American voters. “They voted for what’s best for India-US friendship. With Trump’s good relationship with PM Modi, we’re hopeful for economic improvements, secure borders, and global peace,” he said.

Community leader Alok Kumar, from New Jersey and New York, underscored the shared values between India and the US as the world’s largest and oldest democracies. “As democracies, the US and India share a natural bond rooted in shared values and a commitment to global peace. Both Trump and Modi have focused on ending conflicts and promoting harmony, a vision I believe this administration will carry forward,” he stated. Kumar highlighted the strong relationship between the two leaders, citing memorable events like Trump’s visit to Gujarat and Modi’s “Howdy Modi” rally in Texas. “These connections have strengthened our strategic, economic, and cultural partnerships, setting the stage for a peaceful, prosperous future for both nations,” he added.

Anil Bansal, a New Jersey businessperson and former chairperson of Indus American Bank, acknowledged the election results with hopes that Trump’s administration will work for all Americans. Although a supporter of Kamala Harris and disagreeing with some of Trump’s policies, Bansal remains committed to positive change and unity. “This election was intense and divisive. While I disagree with many of Trump’s policies, I hope his administration serves all Americans and tackles our shared challenges. Moving forward, I pray for a future guided by unity and respect for all,” he said.
