United Nations General Assembly President commends Jaipur Foot Initiative

In a groundbreaking visit on Tuesday, Mr Dennis Francis, President of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA), toured the Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS) to witness firsthand the manufacturing process of the renowned Jaipur Foot. The President commended the initiative for providing advanced yet affordable prosthetics to amputees, free of charge.

Accompanied by Mr Collen Vixen Kelapile, Chef de Cabinet of the PGA, Ms Keisha Aniya Mc Guire, Special Envoy and Special Adviser on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, and other dignitaries, Mr Francis engaged with beneficiaries from different parts of the country. He expressed his admiration for the high-tech, low-cost prosthetics that are making a significant impact on the lives of those in need.
“I am very impressed and lifted by visiting Jaipur Foot, the pinnacle of innovation that restores hope and human dignity to its clients using the most advanced technologies and reaching people in far-flung regions of India. You are no doubt a gift to India and the world,” said Mr. Francis during his visit.

India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ms. Ruchira Kamboj, also joined the delegation and was present during the visit. Executive President Satish Mehta, also Director of International Operations, stressed the importance of BMVSS as a key partner for international organizations like ECOSOC, UNICEF, and WHO in rehabilitating persons with disabilities across the globe.
