Zelenskyy Gains NATO and Macron’s Support for Stronger Defence

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and French President Emmanuel Macron in Brussels to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence and unite Europe in support of Ukraine during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Meeting with NATO Chief

Upon his arrival in Brussels, Zelenskyy held important talks with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The primary focus was on enhancing Ukraine’s air defence capabilities and securing stronger security guarantees. Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to NATO and its partners for their willingness to enhance Ukraine’s defences. He emphasized that these efforts are crucial as Ukraine moves towards a diplomatic solution.

Zelenskyy shared the details of the meeting on social media, stating, “Brussels. An important and very substantive meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Our talks focused on strengthening air defense for Ukraine and ensuring the reliability of the peace we are collectively working to achieve. We thank Mark, NATO Secretary General, and all our partners for their willingness to more actively enhance our air shield and work together for effective security guarantees.”

Building European Unity for Peace

Moreover, Zelenskyy highlighted the need for a unified European position to bring an end to the war. He wrote, “Europe needs a strong, united position to ensure lasting peace.” He further stressed that resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict requires coordinated efforts from European nations.

During his visit, Zelenskyy planned to meet with leaders from Germany, Poland, and Italy. Additionally, he confirmed his participation in the European Council Meeting. This demonstrates Ukraine’s commitment to strengthening both its defences and European unity in facing the crisis.

Talks with French President Macron

Later, Zelenskyy held productive discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron. They focused on Ukraine’s air defence needs and military support. Zelenskyy expressed appreciation for France’s preparation of a brigade for Ukraine’s army, as well as the country’s ongoing support in training and equipping additional brigades.

Zelenskyy posted, “I had a productive meeting with French President @EmmanuelMacron. We had a detailed one-on-one discussion, focusing on key priorities to further strengthen Ukraine’s position against Russian aggression. A clear focus remains enhancing air defense capabilities.”

A Vision for Peace

In addition, Zelenskyy commended Macron’s initiative to deploy forces in Ukraine to help stabilize the situation and pave the way for peace. He noted, “We share a common vision: reliable guarantees are essential for a peace that can truly be achieved. Emmanuel informed about his communication with other partners aimed at ensuring all necessary steps are taken for peace. Thank you, France!”

Zelenskyy’s meetings in Brussels represent a significant step towards strengthening Ukraine’s defences and securing broader European unity against Russian aggression. Ultimately, these discussions are vital for enhancing Ukraine’s military capabilities and moving closer to a lasting peace.
