Prince Harry allegedly found out about his father, King Charles III’s recent hospital stay through the media rather than directly from Buckingham Palace. Reports suggest that he was left uninformed until the news became public.
The palace denied that Charles had been hospitalised for the time being with temporary side effects of his continuous cancer treatment, insisting that the visit was all part of his ‘treatment programme’ and there was ‘no drama’. Other sources report, however, that the plan to keep Harry in the dark could have been designed to avoid undue worry since he was 5,000 miles away.
Harry’s Growing Isolation in California
Harry’s growing alienation from the royal family has made him feel ‘lonelier than ever’, as he is said to spend most of his days at his Montecito mansion. “First he was a spare to William, now he’s more and more looking like a spare to Meghan and it’s not a good look,” an insider said to The Sun.
“He misses his family so much, but no one is talking to him anymore. He just wants to go for a beer with the boys, but his only buddies are just the husbands of Meghan’s friends,” the source further explained.
Harry’s most recent in-person audience with King Charles was in February 2024, when he made a brief trip to the UK following his father’s cancer diagnosis. The brief meeting was over in 30 minutes before Charles left for Sandringham in a helicopter. His relationship with Prince William has also not improved, with minimal communication between the brothers during Harry’s UK visit for their uncle Robert Fellowes’ funeral last year.
Is California Really Home for Harry?
Even with the lavish life he has with Meghan Markle in California, there are some who think Harry isn’t entirely satisfied with his new life. His refusal to go back to the UK is primarily because of his ongoing legal fight for 24-hour armed protection.
“He used to love a night out in the pub and hanging out in the country with friends. Perhaps he has become a different man, but do I think that he would really find the Californian way of life? No. Now we’ve witnessed it all happen, what has it left him with? At face value, a life to be envied but for the Harry I know, I cannot imagine that California gilded exile is where he wished to find himself,” a source said in The Times.
Meanwhile, King Charles was in good spirits on Friday, waving and smiling as he left Clarence House in London en route to his Highgrove estate in Gloucestershire.
