In a recent Instagram video, pop icon Britney Spears disclosed her decision to move to Mexico to evade what she describes as “cruel” paparazzi attention. The singer, known for hits like “Oops!… I Did It Again” and “Toxic,” expressed her frustration with the media’s portrayal of her, stating, “It really kind of hurts my feelings that the paparazzi make my face look like I’m wearing like a white Jason mask, and it doesn’t even look like me.”
Spears elaborated on her experiences with the media, saying, “They’ve always been incredibly cruel to me, the paparazzi and pictures and the way they’ve illustrated me to be in some of it. I know I’m not perfect at all, by any means, but some of it is extremely mean and cruel, and that’s why I’ve moved to Mexico.”
On the same day, Spears shared another video celebrating her upcoming birthday on December 2, humorously stating, “I’m turning five this year. I’m turning five years old, and I have to go to kindergarten tomorrow.”
Britney Spears is not alone in her decision to leave the United States. In November, actress and film producer Eva Longoria revealed that she and her family are splitting their time between Spain and Mexico City. In an interview with Marie Claire, Longoria expressed her discontent with the changes in Los Angeles, saying, “I had my whole adult life here… But even before [the pandemic], it was changing. The vibe was different. And then Covid happened, and it pushed it over the edge.”
Longoria acknowledged her privilege in being able to relocate, stating, “Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”
