British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has hailed Ukraine’s signing up to a suggested 30-day ceasefire, saying it is a big step forward toward putting an end to the war. Speaking on Tuesday, Starmer stated that now the ball was in Russia’s court to stop fighting.

“Now that both American and Ukrainian delegations have said so, the ball is in Russia’s court,” Starmer said, praising Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump for making what he termed a “remarkable breakthrough.”

The UK will host a summit of world leaders on Saturday to agree on the next steps to secure a permanent end to the war. Starmer reaffirmed Britain’s determination to support initiatives that guarantee a fair and enduring peace that enables Ukraine to be sovereign and free.
