Taliban Supports HTS in Syria, Calls for Stable Power Transition

The Taliban in Afghanistan congratulated Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) for overthrowing President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria. In their statement, the Afghan government also expressed hope for a smooth and stable transition in Syria.

Afghanistan’s Statement on Syria

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) praised the recent achievements of HTS and the Syrian people. They celebrated the fall of Damascus and, as a result, expressed hope for a unified and stable Syria moving forward.

Hopes for a Sovereign Islamic Government

Furthermore, Afghanistan expressed the hope that Syria’s power transition would lead to a sovereign Islamic government. The Taliban called for a government that aligns with the desires of the Syrian people and unites the population without discrimination.

Additionally, the Taliban urged foreign nations to support Syria’s path to good governance. They stressed the importance of cooperation with the new leadership to ensure Syria’s security and stability in the long run.

Rebels Enter Damascus, Assad Flees

In a significant development, Syrian rebels entered Damascus, which forced President Bashar al-Assad to flee. This marked the end of his over two-decade rule in the country.

Meanwhile, the rebels also claimed to have captured Syria’s third-largest city, Homs. The opposition leader, Hadi al-Bahra, confirmed that Damascus was now “without Bashar al-Assad,” signaling a major shift in the conflict.

Rapid Advances in the Civil War

The Syrian civil war, which had been dormant for years, reignited with surprising speed. In a matter of weeks, rebel groups took control of major cities, including Aleppo, Homs, and Daraa.
