Lexington police announced that they have found out the suspect who pulled out a gun and shot at the Blue Grass Airport before he made his getaway to the Richmond Road Baptist Church on Sunday. Officers added that two women lost their lives after the incident in Kentucky.

Two Women Killed, Gunman’s Name Withheld

The two women, whose names were not given, are 72 and 32 years old, police added. The dead gunman has also been named. But police did not give out the name, citing that his family has yet to be informed.

Police confirmed that the gunman made his escape to the church, where the two men were shot and wounded. The shooter had shot a state trooper who was working near the Blue Grass Airport.

Police Chief: Gunman Shot Trooper, Carjacked Vehicle

Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers stated that the trooper stopped a car close to the airport. The suspect shot the trooper, then carjacked a car and drove to the church, where they started firing at individuals inside.

The trooper was shot at 11:36 AM in Fayette County, where Lexington is situated, state police added.

Both of the church men were transported to the hospital. One victim is in critical condition, and the other is stable. Later, the suspect was shot dead by the police of Lexington.

Governor Beshear Praises Police Response

Earlier in the day, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear made a release, requesting citizens to thank law enforcement for how they responded to the attacks.

“Please pray for everyone affected by these senseless acts of violence, and let’s give thanks for the swift response by the Lexington Police Department and Kentucky State Police,” he said in a post on X, platform formerly known as Twitter.

Blue Grass Airport tweeted on X at 1 p.m. ET (1700 GMT) that there was a police investigation on part of an airport road, but all flights and operations were now going normally.
