Pakistan: Four Terrorists Killed in Police Counterattack in Mianwali

The Punjab Police in Pakistan successfully thwarted a major terrorist attack on the Chapri Police Station in Mianwali on Sunday. As a result of their swift action, four terrorists were killed, as reported.

Surprise Assault with Heavy Weapons

Initially, more than 20 terrorists launched a sudden and heavily armed assault on the police station. Using rocket launchers and grenades, they targeted the station in the Isa Khel circle near the Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border. Consequently, an intense gunfight broke out between the attackers and the police.

Police Defend Successfully

Despite the severity of the attack, police personnel managed to defend the station effectively. Notably, the entire police team remained safe, with only two officers sustaining minor injuries. “Despite the heavy assault, the entire staff of Chapri Police Station remained safe, with only two police personnel sustaining minor injuries,” the official statement confirmed.

Police Counterattack Kills Four Terrorists

In response, the police launched a swift counterattack, killing four terrorists. Following the operation, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Usman Anwar praised the officers for their courageous defense. Additionally, he highlighted their high morale and reaffirmed the Punjab Police’s commitment to combating terrorism.

Increasing Terrorism Threat

Meanwhile, this attack is part of a larger trend of escalating violence against security forces in Pakistan. For instance, similar incidents have occurred in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This surge began after the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) violated its ceasefire agreement with the government in 2022.

Furthermore, in July, the Pakistani government officially labeled the TTP as “Fitna al Khawarij.” It also directed all institutions to use the term “khariji” to describe groups involved in terrorism.

Overall, the Punjab Police’s decisive response highlights their readiness to counter growing threats and protect the region from future attacks.
