Netherlands PM Dick Schoof Discusses Enhancing Ties With India In Call With PM Modi

Netherlands Prime Minister Dick Schoof recently held a telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and key global issues, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

In a post on X, Schoof wrote, “I just had my first phone call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India. We spoke about further strengthening the good relations between the Netherlands and India and about opportunities to work together more closely through a strategic partnership in areas like security, water, green hydrogen, agriculture, semiconductors and healthcare. We also discussed other matters such as the war in Ukraine.”

Prime Minister Modi echoed the sentiment, calling the Netherlands a “trusted and valued partner.”

“Pleased to speak with PM Dick Schoof. The Netherlands is a trusted & valued partner. We are committed to advance and provide strategic dimension to bilateral ties in diverse sectors including water, agriculture, security, technology, semiconductors and renewable energy,” PM Modi said in a post on X.

PM Modi had earlier congratulated Schoof on assuming office as the Prime Minister on July 2. In his message, Modi emphasized collaboration in areas like renewable energy, water management, agriculture, and emerging technology. “Congratulations Dick Schoof on assuming office as the Prime Minister of the Netherlands. Look forward to closely working together to advance India-Netherlands partnership including in the areas of renewable energy, water management, agriculture, mobility, new and emerging technology,” he wrote on X.

India and the Netherlands share a long history of diplomatic relations, established in 1947. In 2022, the two nations celebrated 75 years of their partnership, marked by strong political, economic, and commercial ties. High-level exchanges have further bolstered this multifaceted relationship.

According to the Indian Embassy in the Netherlands, Water, Agriculture, and Health (WAH) are the three priority sectors of cooperation between the two countries, alongside technology and innovation.
