Japanese actor and singer Miho Nakayama, aged 54, was found deceased at her residence in Tokyo, as reported by BBC. She was located in her bathtub on Friday after being absent from a planned work obligation. Concerned for her well-being, a friend contacted emergency services, who verified her passing at the location.
The reason for her death is currently being investigated. Nakayama had canceled her performance at a Christmas concert in Osaka due to health concerns. Her team announced the tragic news on her official website, conveying their shock and sorrow. “We regret to have to abruptly relay this to all the individuals involved who have consistently cared for her and to all the supporters who have been with her, but this event was so unexpected that we, too, are in shock and grief. We are in the process of investigating the cause of death and other particulars,” the statement indicated.
Nakayama was a cherished icon in Japan, gaining notoriety in the 1980s and 90s, particularly recognized for her role in the 1995 film Love Letter. She also featured in movies such as Tokyo Weather (1997). Nakayama debuted in acting in 1985 and swiftly gained fame. Alongside her acting career, she was a prosperous singer, releasing 22 studio albums and achieving eight No. 1 singles. Her role in Love Letter brought her Best Actress accolades from the Blue Ribbon and Hochi Film Awards.
Nakayama is survived by a son, whom she had with her ex-husband, musician Hitonari Tsuji.
