Kuwait Foreign Minister Hails Strategic Ties With India

Kuwait’s Foreign Minister, Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, called India a “very important partner” during his maiden official visit to New Delhi. He held a bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing aspirations to upgrade the relationship to a strategic partnership.

Centuries of Friendship

Minister Al-Yahya underscored the historic ties between India and Kuwait, stating:
“The historic ties between the State of Kuwait and the Republic of India span centuries of mutual friendship and cooperation. These deep roots of relations have evolved into a great partnership across many issues.”

The minister also highlighted the steady evolution of their partnership, emphasizing its growth and potential.

Strategic Vision and Joint Cooperation

During the discussions, both sides agreed to enhance bilateral ties and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) at the level of foreign ministers. Speaking about the JCC, Al-Yahya remarked:
“The Joint Committee will solve many issues between Kuwait and India and draw a roadmap for rapid progress.”

Plans for the Future

In a notable announcement, Minister Al-Yahya shared Kuwait’s eagerness to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that preparations for his visit would be finalized soon.
He also praised PM Modi’s leadership, calling him “one of the wisest persons worldwide,” and commended his role in elevating India’s global stature.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

This visit marks Minister Al-Yahya’s first official engagement with India since taking office. Both nations aim to advance their robust relationship into a comprehensive strategic partnership, focusing on mutual growth and cooperation.
