In a fiery statement, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz threatened severe action against the Iran-backed Houthi group in Yemen, accusing them of escalating hostilities in the Red Sea. Katz’s remarks come after he publicly admitted to Israel’s involvement in the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in July.
Speaking at an event honoring defence ministry personnel, Katz accused the Houthis of firing missiles at Israel, vowing a decisive response.
“We will damage their strategic infrastructure, and we will behead their leaders – just as we did to Haniyeh, Sinwar, and Nasrallah in Tehran, Gaza, and Lebanon – we will do it in Hodeidah and Sana’a,” he stated.
Katz confirmed Israel’s role in the July killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, an act previously attributed to Israel by Iranian authorities.
The Houthis’ naval blockade attempts and missile attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea pose a significant threat to regional security. Israel’s explicit warning underscores the intensifying military and political conflict in the Middle East.
