Israel Airstrikes Destroy Syria Military, Targeting Key Bases and Infrastructure

Following the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s rule, Israel has escalated its military actions in Syria, launching a series of airstrikes that have reportedly destroyed some of the country’s most important military installations. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Israel has conducted around 250 airstrikes over the past 48 hours, aimed at neutralizing Syria’s remaining military capabilities.

The airstrikes have targeted a wide range of facilities across Syria, including airports, military warehouses, aircraft squadrons, radars, and weapons depots in various governorates. The Observatory noted that some of the most significant sites affected were near the port city of Latakia, where Israel struck an air defense facility, damaged Syrian naval ships, and destroyed military storage facilities.

Near Damascus, the strikes hit several military installations, including research centers and electronic warfare units. Early Tuesday morning, AFP journalists in the Syrian capital reported hearing loud explosions, which followed the airstrikes in the area.

Israel’s actions have been framed by Foreign Minister Gideon Saar as a “temporary and limited” move for security purposes, particularly after Israeli forces entered a buffer zone on the east of the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights following Assad’s fall. The country’s ongoing airstrikes are seen as part of a broader effort to dismantle the military infrastructure of the Syrian regime.
