In a few decades back, Indians could not even have dreamed of being a majority in London or the UK before 1947. Now, in 2025, it has happened; Indians have now emerged as the biggest owner of property in London. That must have given satisfaction to most since Indians are suffering at the hands of the British due to colonial rule.
According to Barrett London, a recent report on property owners belonging to the Indian ethnicity, are described as consisting of long-termers in the UK, NRIs, foreign investors, students, and families moving in for educational reasons. Social networking sites witnessed quite a fast news spread and used the platform by many to let out humorous responses.
One quipped humorously, “At least Indians did it legally, not like the ‘Englishmen’ who were a Mafia of thugs that occupied subcontinent India.” Another said Britain had a colonial past and should be reminded of it: “They once owned half the world and now they own less than half of London.” Some even used the opportunity to crack jokes, with one quipping, “They must get together and colonize England and name it New India.”
There were also demands for reparation, with one user saying, “The English should return the 45 trillion worth of wealth they stole from India. The Kohinoor diamond in their king’s crown belongs to India.” Another user reminded everyone, “More than 90% of the artefacts in the British Museum belong to India; they were stolen by Britishers.
Change of ownership in real estate presents another interesting twist within the annals of history concerning Indo-UK ties.
